Not all content converts. A 'lifestyle' Instagram post might get 1,000 likes and 2 affiliate clicks. A boring product comparison might get 50 visits and 12 affiliate sales. We want the second one.
These six formats consistently outperform every other content type for affiliate conversion. Use them.
1. The comparison post
'Tool A vs. Tool B' or 'Stroller A vs. Stroller B.' Bottom-of-funnel buyer intent. Convert 3–8× higher than any other format.
2. The 'best of' roundup
'5 best baby monitors for split bedrooms.' Specific subset = high intent. Generic roundups don't convert.
| Format | Conv. rate | Time to write | Best channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comparison | 5–8% | 3 hrs | Blog/SEO |
| Roundup | 3–5% | 2 hrs | |
| Deep review | 2–4% | 4 hrs | Blog/YouTube |
| Tutorial | 1–3% | 2 hrs | Blog/Reels |
| Buyer's guide | 4–7% | 8 hrs | Blog/SEO |
3. The honest deep-dive review
'I used [product] for 60 days — here's what shocked me.' Time-bound, opinionated, includes pros and cons. Trust compounds.
4. The how-to tutorial
'How to organize the under-sink chaos in one afternoon.' Show your work step-by-step. Naturally embeds 3–5 affiliate products.
5. The buyer's guide
'Complete first-trimester registry guide.' Long-form, evergreen, ranks for years. The single highest-earning affiliate format.
6. The personal problem-solved story
'How [product] saved my mornings.' Narrative + product = emotional buy-in. Best for email and social.
If you only remember four things
- Comparison and roundup formats dominate affiliate conversion.
- Avoid 'lifestyle' posts — they get likes, not sales.
- Be opinionated. Trust converts, fence-sitting doesn't.
- Buyer's guides take longest but earn for years.
