Every six-figure mom affiliate we've interviewed says the same thing: 'I wish I'd started my email list sooner.' Email is the highest-converting, longest-lasting, most algorithm-proof channel you can build.
This guide skips theory and gives you the build-from-zero playbook.
Pick a platform you won't outgrow
ConvertKit/Kit (free up to 10k) is built for creators. Mailchimp's free plan works for the first 500. Avoid Substack for affiliate work — limited automation.
Create a freebie that gets opened
Specific > generic. 'Free meal plan' = meh. 'Free 7-day plan for picky toddlers (no judgment, just the recipes)' = excellent. Be ridiculously specific to your reader's exact problem.
| Tool | Free up to | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Kit (ConvertKit) | 10,000 | Creators & bloggers |
| Mailchimp | 500 | Beginners |
| Flodesk | — | Designers (flat rate) |
| Beehiiv | 2,500 | Newsletters |
The 5-email welcome sequence
Day 0: Deliver freebie + story. Day 2: Your why. Day 4: Best resource (affiliate). Day 6: Mistake to avoid. Day 8: Soft ask + invitation. This sequence converts new subscribers at 4–7%.
Day-one email setup
- Account on Kit or Mailchimp
- Freebie created (PDF, checklist, swipe file)
- Landing page live
- Pop-up on your site
- Welcome email written
- Calendar reminder for weekly send
The weekly email rhythm
One email a week. Same day, same time. Short (250–400 words), one main idea, one link, one P.S. with a soft affiliate. This is the most underrated affiliate format on the internet.
Monetize without being spammy
Rule: every 4 emails contains 1 direct affiliate recommendation. The other 3 build trust. Audiences who feel 'helped first' convert 5× better than audiences who feel 'sold to.'
If you only remember four things
- Email is the highest-ROI affiliate channel — start week one.
- Be ridiculously specific with your freebie.
- Welcome sequence beats every other automation.
- 1 email/week is enough if you're consistent.
